Obituary for
Michael Joseph Durant Jr.
Michael Joseph Durant Jr., 45 of Moss Bluff passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born in Woodruff, Wisconsin on September 8, 1970 to Norma Doud and the late Michael Durant Sr. He graduated in 1988 from Braham High School in Braham, Minnesota where he was a member of the wrestling team.
He moved to Westlake, LA 27 years ago and lived the last 10 years in Moss Bluff. Michael graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in Mass Communications. While attending McNeese he worked as the “Arts and Entertainment” editor of the school newspaper, the Contraband/ His writings earned him multiple awards. He was employed by Lowe’s of Lake Charles for 9 years.
Michael was a Chippewa Indian and very proud of his heritage. He was a member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin. He was an active member of the local charity organization Southwest Louisiana Chive which helps those in need.
Michael was an avid fan of music and enjoyed attending concerts. His time as a writer/editor for the Contraband allowed him to interview and write about many famous musicians. He also enjoyed collecting autographs and comic related memorabilia.
Michael is predeceased by his father Michael Joseph Durant, Sr.
He is survived by his two sons, Logan and Hayden Durant of Westlake, LA; his mother Norma Doud of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, two sisters, Carrie Spiering of Woodruff, Wisconsin and Michaela Daubon of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, two brothers, Walter Durant and Geronimo Durant all of Lac du Flambeau Wisconsin, the mother of his children, Lynette Durant of Westlake, and his good friend Larry Abshire of Moss Bluff.
Visitation will begin Friday, August 12, 2016 from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home.
