Betty''s memorial services were postponed because of her son''s full time job requirements. This involved two separate trips to the Seattle Area. Now, back in Lake Charles, Betty''s son Victor, would like to apologize for the delay and invite everyone to come celebrate Betty''s wonderful life.
Memorial Services will be held at Lakeside Funeral Home, 340 East Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles, LA on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calcasieu Council on Aging''s meals on Wheels Program at 3950 Highway 14, Lake Charles, LA 70607.
Lake Charles- Betty L. Coale, age 89 passed away at a local hospital at 2:15 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015.
Betty was a graduate of Brownstown, Illinois high school. She met her husband Fred in Vandalia, Illinois as he was ending his service with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. They married in Brownstown and then moved to Fred''s prewar State of Texas.
In Houston, Fred and Betty operated Ellington Army Store until retirement in 1981. Fred and Betty had a very happy and full life together. They raised Fred''s preteen daughter Eunice and nurtured their two sons, Thomas and Victor.
In retirement they enjoyed their beautiful home, yard, and pool. They also did some traveling in their Mini-Winni R. V. After Betty''s husband Fred passed in 1987, she moved to the Seattle Area in 1992, sharing a home with her son Victor. She was also able to visit her oldest son Tom more easily as he lived in Anchorage, Alaska at the time.
Betty missed the warm southern weather so she moved to Lake Charles in 1995 to be close to her sister, Shirley Perkins. Betty loved to travel. She and her husband visited multiple states on business trips. She made trips to Costa Rica in the 1970''s to visit her sons who lived there at the time. She traveled to Europe, especially enjoying Switzerland, her grandparent''s country of origin. She also visited Hawaii and got a kiss on the cheek from Don Ho. (He couldn''t resist her charm!)) Betty volunteered at Memorial S.W. Hospital in Houston for 10 years. She also volunteered for Calcasieu Council on Aging for several years. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles.
Survivors are son, Victor Coale of Everett, WA; sisters, Mary Goldhagen of Aurora, Ill.; Barbara Mixon of Pearland, TX. and Ramona Philpot of Vandalia, Ill.; She is also survived by five grandchildren; Jolynn Keepers of Dickinson, TX, Paula Soloman of La Porte, TX, Kelly Balli of LaPorte, TX.; Alicia Richards of McAllen, TX, and Loriana Baccus Coale of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Coale of Houston, TX; her son Tom Coale of Houston, TX; her stepdaughter Eunice M. Jones of La Porte, TX; and her sister Shirley J. Wisely Perkins of Lake Charles.
Betty''s son, Victor would like to give a big thanks to Mr. W.L. Buddy Perkins for countless kind special favors ranging from small Handyman tasks to major evacuations and emergency rescues.
Betty''s cremation was entrusted to Lakeside Funeral Home. A celebration of life for Betty will be held at a later date.
