Gilbert Eugene Brittain
Gilbert Eugene ‘Corky” Brittain, 84, of Iowa, LA, passed away at 9:00 AM Thursday, October 30, 2014 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on January 7, 1930, in Shelby County, TX. He relocated to Lake Charles in 1960. Mr. Gilbert served honorably in the United States Air Force and was discharged after 4 years. He retired from Conoco after 22 years of service. During that time he was an operator and welder in the mechanic shop.
In his spare time, Corky was an avid fisherman and member of the Lake Charles Bass Club for many years. He enjoyed his camp at Toledo Bend and fishing with his brother, grandsons, family and friends during his retirement. Gene was a member of the Folsom Baptist Church in Center, TX. During the course of his life he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 133 for many years. He also coached little league and was a member of the John Ayres Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Brittain is predeceased by his parents Tyre and Vera Brittain, brothers, Obryan Brittain, and Darrell Brittain, and one sister, Beatrice Ward.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 years, Ann Brittain, two sons Dale Brittain of Spring Texas and Richard (Lisa) Brittain of Houston, TX, two daughters, Beth Ann Clippinger of Arvada, Colorado, and Mrs. Melissa (Greg) Alexander of Iowa, LA, four grandsons, Joshua (Somure) Brittain of Victoria, TX, Ty (Cessanee) Brittain of Katy, TX, Phillip (Erica) Brittain of Leauge City, TX, Brandon (Lana) Fontenot of Arnaudville, LA, Dr. Daniel Fontenot and Megan Higginbothom of Lake Charles, LA, and Nick Clippinger of Denver, CO, four granddaughters, Kiley (Ben) Clippinger of Denver, CO, Jaimy (Efren) Sanchez of Round Rock TX, Kestra Derise and Lhea Derise of Houston, TX, seven great grandchildren, three sisters, Bernice Brown of Kinder, LA, Mavis Peyton of Rosharon, TX, and Kathy Canady of Florida, and one sister in law, Mae Brittain of Many, LA.
A private celebration in honor of his memory will be held at a later date. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Brittain will be cremated and his ashes shared with family members.
